We all arrived exhausted on Saturday evening so we didn’t connect until Sunday morning - at which point four executives decided that the Wedgewood Resort was not for us. Or as Chris phrased it “This place is a dump.” So we got a taxi to the airport to pick up our rental car, found a good breakfast restaurant tip from the taxi driver, had breakfast and then promptly checked out.
We had a nice walk around the property looking for birds - and “we dipped.” But there were plenty of sandhill cranes nearby which were entertaining. Then it was off to the large animal research facility on the Fairbanks campus of Alaska University. We learned a lot about muskox and reindeer.
We are all now nicely checked in at the Hampton Inn - so modern with elevators and no old musty smell and a proper free breakfast. Still close by to the birding hotspots and all other activities in Fairbanks to come.
